UBTH Assures Fairness In Selection Of Interns

The Chief Medical Director, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. (Mrs) Idia Ize-Iyamu yesterday assured candidates seeking internship placement at the tertiary health institution of fairness in the selection and placement process.

Addressing the candidates numbering about 1500 at the interview exercise held at UNIBEN CBT centres, the Chief Medical Director, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, tasked all candidates on excellence to secure placement in the hospital.

She noted that only candidates who performed excellently at the interview would be shortlisted for selection and placement.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu cautioned candidates against any form of sharp practices in securing placement, adding that there is no ‘favoritism’ or ‘special list’ for  candidates.

“This interview is to ensure that only the best is shortlisted. Connections will not be used. Do not give anyone money to help you secure placement .

“We have observers from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Character Commission both from Benin and Abuja. We have an official from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation to monitor the exercise. Do your best, and I wish you good luck.”Ize-Iyamu said.

Representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Kayode Oke, who spoke on behalf of the Director,

Human Resources Management, FMoH,  lauded the hospital for the hitch free exercise.

In his remark, Edo State Director Federal Character Commission (FCC) , Barr. Simon Ehigie , accompanied by an official from FCC Abuja, Ms. Linda Obanor said the exercise is in line with approved guidelines and in compliance with the Federal Character Principle.

He noted that candidates seeking placement were drawn from across all the 36 states of the federation,  stressing that ” the FCC would not sacrifice merit on the alter of balancing.”

Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) UBTH, Prof Stanley Okugbo, said that UBTH is committed to excellence by conducting the interview to give candidates fairly good assessment and some measures of merit in the  selection and placement process.

Earlier, director Information Communications Technology

 

(ICT)  University of Benin (UNIBEN), Mr. Kehinde Samuel said the university had put in place the enabling environment for a successful conduct of the Computer Based Test (CBT) for the candidates seeking placement into UBTH internship programmes.

Some of the candidates who participated in the interview expressed satisfaction with the  exercise and hailed the hospital management for the  selection and placement interview process using the CBT.
