A total of 61 veterinary medical students of Uthman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, were, yesterday, inducted as the 30th graduating set of the university.
The 2023/2024 swearing-in ceremony, held at the university’s main auditorium hall, was in conjunction with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, which was chaired by Professor Aminu Abubakar, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
The vice chancellor of the university and chief host, Professor Bashir Garba, went down memory lane and acknowledged the efforts of the faculty founding fathers in establishing what is being celebrated today.
Professor Garba mentioned that “just last week, 95 students were matriculated into veterinary medicine.” He encouraged the graduands to remain focused and be good ambassadors of the university.
Professor Aminu Abubakar, in his admonition, said, “Veterinary medicine is not just science but an art. To the faculty staff, thank you for shaping this new world. To parents, I salute you.”
From the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Aliyu Jibrin, it was an emotional departure from the students. He said, “I have been their teacher all true, and it was a mixed feeling, withdrawing from them today.”
However, Dr Yakubu Shaba, head of the Department of Business Administration, UDUS, the guest speaker, gave the graduands a pep talk that was enough to help them navigate the new world.
In his valedictory speech, Ahmad Yahaya thanked the faculty for imparting knowledge to them and admonished his fellow graduates to keep the university flag flying.
The event was climaxed with prizes to deserving students.
