The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has partnered with the All Progressives Congress state chairmen’s forum to supervise road projects and deliver quality roads to Nigerians.

The Minister directed APC State Chairmen to supervise road projects within their domain and ensure quality work is delivered to Nigerians.

He said that despite criticism, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly subsidy removal and Naira floatation, saved the economy from collapse.

He stated this on Tuesday when he received a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairmen led by the Chairman of APC Cross River State, Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq, who is the forum’s secretary.

“So I want to invite you, you know, to be partners, and we will form a WhatsApp group. If you will, I’m going to start.

I want you to come. I want you to come.

“Because I will command the contractors, if it is sharp sand, our members can give, and you will now begin to checkmate the quality and the speed of work in your cities. Because this is what we are bringing up for our campaign.”

“So, we’ll work with you, and I’ll give you the authority to move to the sites; you are in charge. If you see any job not being done properly, I give you my authority to stop the job. You are going to have a WhatsApp platform with me and them to report,”

He commented on the 2027 campaign, “Having been in this position, you know, like you rightly said, I think we need to work together. We need to work together. You see, changes are required during a campaign.

But most of the time, they are cash-trapped, you know, to do all that they need to do. Because it’s not a working campaign that matters. The in-depth campaign, door to door, you know, that matters.

And I think together with the stakeholders, we have to, you know, support you and work with you to deliver to the people all the great work that you are doing,”.

He commended President Tinubu’s economic reform policies, saying his bold policies on subsidy removal and Naira floatation saved the country.

“I want to commend Mr. President. There have been a lot of improvements in our economy. I’ve always said that Mr. President inherited an economy that needed oxygen, that he was a shopper, and then he came and put oxygen in it, and today, we have removed the oxygen.

“If that was not done, where would this country have been? Some people will, you know, cancel without knowledge. And when you criticise, can you give us an alternative? When people criticise the fuel subsidy removal, you know, we came at a time when the ugly effect of the Naira redesign brought a lot of hardship for the people.

“But with the floating of the Naira, the President has stabilised the economy. When he came on board, you see the way the economy of Naira is today. We have a stable Naira.

We have a global economy, in shock, with a stable Naira”.

He said that section one of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway has been completed at 70%.

“We command international respect because of the great work that the president is doing. Therefore, as APC governors in government, we have to put our heads very, very high because of the kind of President God has brought to lead an economy that was in shock.

Today, the economy is brittle on its own, the environment is terrible, and we have increased our foreign reserves. So we must be very grateful to God Almighty.”

Earlier, the delegation leader, Alphonsus, said the solidarity visit was to commend the Minister for his achievements in the road sector.

He said Umahi’s achievement has made the party proud, and it will be easy to campaign for votes from Nigerians in 2027.

He said, “You’ve contributed 80 per cent to what will make the President win reelection in 2027.”

He sought to partner with the ministry and, voluntarily, support in supervising road projects.
