The United States government has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria as part of efforts to bolster the country’s ongoing counterterrorism and security operations.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the development in a statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, noting that the supplies were officially handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM said, tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria, @USinNigeria.
According to the command, the delivery underscored Washington’s continued commitment to strengthening its security partnership with Abuja.
The latest assistance comes amid renewed collaboration between Nigeria and its international allies to address persistent insecurity across parts of the country, particularly terrorism and violent extremism in the North East and North West regions.
In November 2025, the Tinubu administration had appealed to the U.S. government to deploy its military to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism in several states. The appeal was confirmed by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, while reacting to America’s decision to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Following that request, an airstrike was conducted on December 25, 2025, in coordination with Nigerian authorities. The joint operation reportedly targeted terrorist strongholds in the country’s North West.
The Federal Government later confirmed ongoing intelligence and security cooperation with the U.S. “Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, to address terrorism and violent extremism,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The collaboration, according to the ministry, includes intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support conducted in line with international law, respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, and mutual security commitments.
U.S. Congressman Riley Moore praised the joint airstrikes, describing them as “a decisive move to protect Christian communities and tackle the ongoing security crisis in the country.”
The delivery of new military supplies further strengthens the growing security ties between both nations as Nigeria continues its push to end insurgency and restore stability across affected regions.
