Nigeria’s Ruth Usoro delivered another podium finish for Team Nigeria after claiming the silver medal in the women’s long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Usoro secured second place with a wind-assisted leap of 6.87 metres on her opening attempt, a mark that proved enough to earn her a place on the podium in a highly competitive final.

England’s Jazmin Sawyers won the gold medal with a best jump of 6.93m, while Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl settled for bronze after recording 6.80m.

Usoro’s silver further strengthened Team Nigeria’s impressive medal haul in Glasgow, where the country’s athletes have enjoyed one of their most successful Commonwealth Games campaigns in recent years.

The long jumper’s achievement added to Nigeria’s growing list of athletics medals, following gold-medal performances from Samuel Ogazi in the men’s 400 metres, Ezekiel Nathaniel in the men’s 400m hurdles and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi in the men’s shot put.

Nigeria’s sprinters have also made a significant impact at the Games, with Kanyinsola Ajayi ending a 20-year wait for a Commonwealth men’s 100m medal by winning bronze, Udodi Onwuzurike claiming silver in the men’s 200m, and the men’s 4x100m relay quartet securing another silver medal after a thrilling finish behind Australia.

Usoro’s podium finish underlined the depth of Nigeria’s athletics team and reinforced the country’s growing reputation across both track and field events.

With the Games entering their closing stages, Team Nigeria continues to build momentum, with athletes delivering outstanding performances that have kept the nation among the leading medal-winning countries in Glasgow.
