Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Wukari (FUW), Prof. Benjamin Kefas, has warned newly admitted students of the institution to shun drug abuse, cultism and other social vices capable of jeopardising their academic pursuits and future careers.

Kefas gave the warning during the university’s 15th matriculation held at the University’s Convocation Square in Wukari.

LEADERSHIP reports that, of the over 7,000 that applied, 3,395 were admitted and formally inducted into the institution for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The vice chancellor, who described university education as critical to nation-building, urged the students to uphold discipline, integrity and academic excellence throughout their stay in the institution.

According to him, the university operates a zero-tolerance policy against cultism, drug abuse and all forms of criminal or unethical behaviour.

“Drug abuse, cultism and all illicit activities are prohibited at the Federal University Wukari. Our university has a zero-tolerance policy on these vices. We expect you to stay away from bad behaviour and make your parents, the university and Nigeria proud,” he said.

The vice chancellor noted that, Nigeria has continued to produce globally competitive graduates because of the dedication and hard work of its young people, urging the new students to sustain that legacy through commitment to their studies.
