The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed that social media influencers Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and Freedom Atsepoyi, known as Mr Jollof, may face prosecution and possible jail terms following their fight onboard United Nigeria Airlines’ Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport, Delta State.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, told reporters that the aviation authority would recommend that the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police prosecute the passengers.
Achimugu added that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) would also be advised to place them on a temporary no-fly list.
“The airline is sending a report to the NCAA today. When that report comes, the necessary department will make the decisions that need to be made,” Achimugu said.
“I have spoken with the Director of Legal Services at the NCAA and advised that they write to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to prosecute the passengers.
“We will furnish them with the details of the case to aid their prosecution. We will advise AON to blacklist these passengers to serve as a deterrent. If the case is prosecuted, they could face jail terms and fines. The laws are clear.”
LEADERSHIP recalls that VDM and Mr Jollof engaged in a physical fight on a United Nigerian Airlines plane bound for Lagos, which other passengers, including comedian Funnybone, struggled to separate them, on Monday.
United Nigeria Airlines’ Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, confirmed the incident, stating that both influencers were handed over to airport security following the scuffle.
