Veteran actor, Prince Jide Kosoko, has called for harmony, professionalism and mutual respect among Nigerian actors as concerns mount over the rising trend of online feuds within the film industry.

The popular actor also known as Jide Babs, directed his appeal particularly at female Yoruba actors, who have gained a reputation for airing their personal grievances on the social media.

Kosoko reminded them that their actions will shape the history of tomorrow, adding that as mothers and future grandmothers, they should be mindful of the legacy, cautioning that the internet never forgets.

He went further to point out that those who had previously been involved in such fierce disputes have since abandoned the practice, expressing concern that it is now the younger ones — whom they consider their children and who were taught the principles of respect who are keeping such disputes alive.

He said, “We trained many of you. We watched you grow. And while we are proud of how far many of you have come, it pains us to see the house we built being torn apart by ego-driven conflicts.”

He emphasised that, as influential personalities and custodians of culture, they have a duty to set positive examples by upholding the principles of honour, integrity, and proper conduct as rooted in Nigerian traditions.

“Even those who once had disagreements in the past have since embraced peace. But this new wave has taken things to a level that brings shame and discomfort to all of us,” he said.

“We urge you to learn from your male colleagues, who despite differences, have found mature ways to handle conflicts without public disgrace”, he said.

Prince Kosoko urged those involved in the quarrels to channel their efforts into self-development, career progress, and fostering harmony, noting that public confrontations achieve nothing but harm everyone involved.

He also revealed that senior figures in the industry would soon gather for a roundtable with the parties concerned and key stakeholders, with the aim of settling all outstanding matters peacefully.

“We appeal to all to honour this call when it comes. Anyone who chooses to ignore it would be clearly choosing disunity over peace, and destruction over growth. Whatever the issues are, you will have the opportunity to express yourself and we will certainly ensure an amicable settlement”, he said.

Kosoko assured the public and all concerned parties that elders are diligently working behind the scenes to achieve a lasting resolution.
