Nigeria’s Super Falcons have stepped up preparations for their decisive Group C encounter against Egypt, with a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) firmly within reach.
The nine-time African champions resumed full training on Monday evening in Rabat after a light recovery session and in-house activities on Sunday, following their gritty 1-0 victory over Zambia.
The recovery session, held at the ASFAR Training Centre, lasted for more than an hour as head coach Justine Madugu and his technical crew began fine-tuning tactics for Wednesday’s must-win clash at the Olympic Stadium.
Nigeria reignited their campaign with the victory over the Copper Queens after opening the tournament with a surprise 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi.
Asisat Oshoala’s early strike proved decisive against Zambia, while the Super Falcons displayed tremendous resilience to preserve their lead despite playing the entire second half with 10 players following Oluwatosin Demehin’s red card just before the interval.
The result has left the Super Falcons needing victory over Egypt to confirm their place in the last eight.
Madugu’s side will also be aiming for a convincing win to improve their standing in Group C and carry momentum into the knockout phase as they pursue a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
Egypt, meanwhile, arrive for the encounter under pressure after suffering back-to-back defeats, losing 6-0 to Zambia before falling 3-1 to Malawi.
With qualification now in their own hands, the Super Falcons will be determined to finish the group stage on a high and strengthen their credentials as genuine contenders for the African title.
