Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has vowed that the Gunners will return stronger next season after suffering heartbreak in the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the disappointment of losing to the French champions on penalties in Budapest, Rice struck a defiant tone during Arsenal’s Premier League title celebrations in north London, promising supporters that the club’s pursuit of more silverware is far from over.
Mikel Arteta’s side endured an emotional evening at the Puskás Arena after appearing on course for European glory. Kai Havertz handed Arsenal an early advantage inside six minutes, sparking scenes of jubilation among travelling supporters.
However, PSG responded through Ousmane Dembélé, who converted from the penalty spot in the second half to level proceedings and force the match into a dramatic shoot-out.
Arsenal’s hopes of completing a memorable domestic and European double were dashed when Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães failed to convert their spot-kicks.
The disappointment, though painful, did little to dampen celebrations as Arsenal’s players returned from Hungary in the early hours to join hundreds of thousands of supporters lining the streets of Islington, Highbury and Canonbury for the club’s Premier League trophy parade.
Rice, one of Arsenal’s standout performers throughout the campaign, addressed fans with a message of gratitude and determination.
“I love this team, I love this manager,” the England international said.
“To witness the happiness we can bring to people is incredible.
“Next year we’re coming back for more. Lock in or get locked out.”
His remarks were met with loud cheers from supporters, many of whom remain encouraged by Arsenal’s progress under Arteta despite falling agonisingly short of European success.
Having ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League title, Arsenal now turn their attention towards building on this season’s achievements and mounting another challenge for both domestic and continental honours.
