Founder of Nwanyi Okpuzu Initiativ (She-Technician), Mrs Chibuogwu Okoro, has said the group is committed to nurturing a new generation of female engineers in the country.
Okoro stated this in her Christmas message to residents of Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
She expressed delight with girls’ unrelenting passion for science subjects.
Explaining that she is impressed with their performance in engineering courses, she encouraged secondary school girls to embrace STEM “as it is not exclusive to men.
“We’ve successfully trained some young girls in technical fields such as solar panel installation, electrical wiring and POP design as well as equipping them with vital skills for the future.”
According to her, the initiative has also significantly reduced unemployment among housewives, vulnerable women and widows by providing them entrepreneurial skill.
“By partnering with stakeholders, we aim to extend our reach by empowering more women and girls to pursue careers in engineering and technical fields.”
The founder, who urged the girls to adopt an “I-can-do-it” spirit, assured them of their potential to excel and lead in the field of engineering in the country.
