Kano State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of the Interim Management Committees of 44 local government areas of the state for effectively discharging their duties without fear or favour.

The chairman of the House Committee on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Hamza Masu, stated this when he presented a report to the Assembly at yesterday’s plenary presided over by the speaker, Hon Jibril Falgore.

Massu who is also the chairman of the screening ad-hoc committee explained that the chairmen, and other members of the IMC were carefully scrutinized by four groups under the leadership of the deputy speaker, majority leader and the chief whip.

According to him, after careful scrutiny it was found out that, “None of them was found guilty of misconduct or abuse of office in the last three months,” hence their renewal.

He stated that the committee recommended the house to grant the request by extending the tenure of the IMCs from 8th June to 7th September 2024.

Supporting the motion, majority leader of the House, Lawan Dala, urged the House to approve the extension without hesitation for the development of the state.

After careful deliberations, the house unanimously adopted the motion and approved the tenure extension for the IMCs and further appealed to the state government to ensure timely release of funds to enable them carry out their duties effectively.

Sulaiman Ishaq, member representing Madobi constituency who moved the motion posited that elevation of the hospital would go a long way in uplifting health care services in the area.

The House adjourned its sitting to Monday, July 15, 2024 in a motion moved by the majority leader, Lawan Dala.
