The All Progressives Congress has suspended State, Ward and Local Government Area congresses in Abia State.
The suspension was contained in a letter dated February 18, 2026 and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It was signed by the APC national chairman, Prof. Mentawe Goshwe Yilwatida, and the Secretary, Senator Nurujudeen Ajibola Bashiru, a copy of which was sighted by LEADERSHIP.
The party leadership stated that the congresses earlier scheduled to be held pursuant to the approved timetable of activities have been suspended until further notice.
According to the party, the decision was taken following ongoing consultations and the need to conclude certain preparatory and administrative processes to ensure an orderly, transparent and credible conduct of the congresses in the state.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, who also confirmed the development, said the party notified INEC in line with the requirements of the Electoral Act, adding that a new date shall be communicated in due course.
