The Ebonyi State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Emegha, has said the APC aims to create a one-party system to foster unity and accelerate state development.
He also said member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency on the platform of Labour Party and his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart representing Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Hon Iduma Igariwe, will join the ruling APC before the end of the year.
Emegha made the disclosure when the APC leadership received a former commissioner of Finance in the State, Barr. Timothy Odah, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Emegha said the APC aims to create a one-party system to foster unity and accelerate state development.
“Our primary goal is to create a one-party system to foster unity and accelerate state development. What we want is collaboration over opposition.”
He reiterated his determination to unite key leaders under the APC banner.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure that we bring all the stakeholders under one platform. We want a seamless election process in the State come 2027. There is no need for fighting, bickering and crisis, so by the time all the stakeholders come together as one family, it will be easy for us to have a seamless election.
“Let me assure you that we are expecting the Labour Party National Assembly Member who is representing OHANIVO Federal Constituency to soon join us in APC. I am also hopeful and optimistic that the House of Representatives member, representing Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency will also join us before the end of this December.”
He emphasised that the party will not field any candidate that does not have grassroot support.
“APC is ready to welcome everyone to help develop the State and also add his or her input to the smooth running of the present administration. We are taking the mandate to the people. Our people who are at the grassroot will play a major part in who we field as our candidate.
“We believe in party discipline and let me emphasize on it again, each candidate’s popularity will guide the selection process, with priority given to delivering development to all areas. “The will of the masses will determine our candidates, not just party loyalty,” he added.
Odah, a former local government chairman, said his decision to defect to the APC was influenced by the governor’s emphasis on peace, development, and youth empowerment, which he believes will positively impact the state in the coming years.
He praised APC state chairman, Emegha, for his efforts in strengthening the party and welcomed Odah’s transition. He pledged to work with Emegha and other party leaders to secure victory for Governor Nwifuru and APC candidates in Onicha LGA in 2027.
“I’m here to add value, not to contest elections, but to support progress and peaceful elections. We are all from Ebonyi State and we must work together for the State to develop more.
