The Peoples Democratic Party has ratified its ward, local government, state and zonal congresses nationwide.

This followed the adoption of a motion moved by the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, at the just-concluded 2026 PDP National Convention in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by her media aide, Mike Idoko.

The decision, endorsed unanimously by delegates, validates party structures across affected states and marks a significant step in the PDP’s ongoing internal reorganisation ahead of future electoral contests, including the 2027 general elections.

The convention, attended by thousands of stakeholders, comes after months of internal consultations, disputes in some state chapters, and reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring cohesion within the opposition party.

The ratification is widely seen as a move to consolidate leadership legitimacy at all levels and reinforce the party’s constitutional processes.

Moving the motion on the convention floor, Akpoti-Uduaghan underscored the importance of unity, legality and institutional stability, describing the exercise as central to strengthening the party’s democratic framework.

“Today’s decision is not merely procedural; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to internal democracy, party discipline, and respect for due process.

“The PDP remains a party governed by rules, consultations, and the will of its members at all levels,” she said.

The motion sought approval for congresses conducted in several states, in line with resolutions of the National Executive Committee and recommendations of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as compliance with court judgments and provisions of the party’s constitution.

States where congresses were ratified include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Niger, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory.

The convention also approved repeat congresses in Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.

The motion received voice approval, reflecting broad consensus among delegates and signalling renewed unity across the party’s various blocs.

In her closing remarks, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged members to place collective interest above personal ambitions as the party works to reposition itself nationally.

“The task before us is bigger than any single person. Together, we must rebuild trust, deepen inclusion, and position the PDP as the credible alternative Nigerians are looking toward,” she added.
