Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to form a rainbow coalition with the newly elected area council chairmen, assuring them of a collaborative partnership regardless of their political parties.

Receiving the chairmen-elect, who visited him on Wednesday to present their certificates of return, the minister urged them to prioritize governance over partisanship for the overall development of the territory.

“On behalf of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, I congratulate the brand new chairmen of the Area Councils.

“By the grace of God, you have worked hard and emerged victorious, and we thank God for the opportunity given to you to serve,” he said.

He emphasised that the progress of the FCT depends on unity and cooperation among its leaders.

“No matter the party, what is important is that we work together. Since I came as minister, we have always worked together in the city, and that is why we have continued to achieve results,” he said.

The minister explained that while the administration supported candidates loyal to President Bola Tinubu, its doors are open to all.

He introduced the concept of an inclusive governance model for the territory.

“Candidates who supported Mr. President received our support, and we thank God they emerged victorious. Even those from other parties who support the President will be part of what we call a rainbow coalition in the FCT,” Wike said.

Looking ahead to their swearing-in ceremony scheduled for June, the minister assured the chairmen of a seamless partnership with the FCT Administration but reminded them of the responsibilities that come with their new roles.

“By the time you are sworn in, we will begin to work together to move the councils forward. The support given to you by Mr. President means you must reciprocate by giving good governance to the people,” he said.

The minister concluded by congratulating both the incoming chairmen and the outgoing council leaders, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
