Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has unveiled the federal government’s intention to establish additional districts within the FCT.

This revelation was made on Wednesday in Abuja during the groundbreaking ceremony for a three-kilometre road in Mabushi, M16. The road will improve access to the Katampe District, particularly for the Judges’ Quarters.

Wike emphasised that President Bola Tinubu has mandated that infrastructure be thoroughly developed in existing districts before creating new ones. He assured residents that infrastructure will be extended to all current districts in Abuja as part of this commitment.

“Under President Tinubu’s directive, we aim to ensure that every district in Abuja is equipped with the essential infrastructure typical of urban areas before considering the addition of new districts,” Wike stated.

The minister further affirmed his dedication to completing all projects awarded during his tenure, dismissing the idea of leaving unfinished work for subsequent administrations. “We are determined not to abandon any projects. Every initiative we undertake will reach completion,” he assured.

Wike clarified that contracts awarded under his leadership would not face issues of cost augmentation or delays. “We believe in adhering to project timelines without unnecessary extensions, ensuring prompt payments to contractors,” he added.

He commended the contractors involved in the Mabushi road project for their readiness to commence work, noting that their confidence stems from the assurance of available funding.

“Most delays occur because contractors lack certainty about payments; in our case, we’ve established trust, enabling them to start work even before formal mobilisation,” he explained.

Wike urged the contractors to adhere to the project’s deadlines. “Had it not been for procurement challenges, completion would have occurred before May. Nevertheless, I am confident in their ability to meet the stipulated timelines,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, Wike pledged immediate payment upon receipt of invoices from contractors, stressing the roads’ significance in alleviating residents’ challenges. “These roads are vital for enhancing the quality of life for our people,” he said.
