Lere Olayinka, the senior special assistant to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has responded to African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesman, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, faulting his claims that Wike destroyed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This came after Abdullahi alleged on Thursday that Wike had allowed himself to be used to destroy one of Africa’s most powerful political parties.
However, Olayinka’s in a press statement yesterday said it was Abdullahi’s own political maneuvering that contributed to the PDP’s decline.
“The question Nigerians should ask is: Was it Wike who made Abdullahi abandon the PDP in 2014? Was it Wike who caused his fallout with Senator Bukola Saraki, the very man who elevated him from special assistant to minister?”
“In his characteristic deceitful manner, Abdullahi conveniently forgot to mention how his political wanderings – and those of Atiku Abubakar, his newfound political leader, actually contributed to PDP’s challenges. History recorzxcvds how Atiku’s political maneuvers undermined PDP’s efforts to win Lagos State in 2003,” he said.
Olayinka presented a timeline of Abdullahi’s political shifts, saying, “In 2014, as a minister under President Jonathan, what prompted his move to APC? If the government he served had failed Nigerians as he claims, why did he wait until his personal political interests were at stake to leave?
“As APC’s national publicity secretary, did he depart because of Wike, or was it because he realised his thirst for power wouldn’t be satisfied there?
“When he failed to secure PDP’s governorship ticket in Kwara, was that Wike’s doing? Even with a senatorial ticket in 2023, he still lost to his APC opponent.”
He added that after serving as special assistant, special adviser, commissioner and minister, if Kwara State still rejected him for both governorship and senate, “What does that say? The painful truth Abdullahi must face is that he’s become a political liability. He should drop the pretenses and admit his ‘Political Jumpology’ rather than peddling this tired narrative about rescuing Nigeria.”
