The organisers of the Meet Africa Fashion Festival (MAFEST) have disclosed that the winner of its 2024 maiden edition will be rewarded with a cash prize of N7 million and other benefits.

The president of Meet Africa Fashion Festival, Charles Ozoemena said this when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the corporate head office of LEADERSHIP Media Group Limited, Abuja to seek the company’s support to the project.

The premier event, he said, would take place at the prestigious International Conference Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital from February 13th to 15th, 2024.

According to him, about 40 African fashion designers in Africa are set to attend.

He lamented that Nigeria is not consuming its own fashion, saying the programme aims to create jobs for the youths.

“It’s a programme that means well and wants to ensure about 40 fashion designers from Africa are coming along with models. We are going to run a fashion competition for the upcoming fashion designers and give them a chance to equally showcase their innovative creations.

“Countries are using fashion as an avenue to create jobs and wealth.

So we are looking at the non-oil sector, how we can generate wealth.

“So, we are calling on LEADERSHIP to collaborate with us on this programme.

“Five of the winners of this programme will showcase along with the elite fashion designers and the whole world will see and celebrate them.

“They will also win cash prizes and the winner of the designer of the year will go home with N7 million cash prize and two industrious machines,” he added.

Responding, the group managing director, LEADERSHIP, Mr. Muazu Elazeh, commended the initiative, saying it will boost job creation and promote made-in-Nigeria products.

While assuring the company’s support, he said if well harnessed, the government will benefit from it immensely.

“It is a platform for us to ensure people patronise the made in Nigeria goods which has a multiplier effect on job creation.”
