A woman was taken into custody on Sunday, March 8, after she allegedly opened fire on the Los Angeles-area home of Rihanna and her partner, A$AP Rocky.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a report of gunfire at about 1:21 p.m. local time. The Los Angeles Times reported that an unnamed 30-year-old woman was detained in connection with the incident.
Reports indicate that at least 10 shots were fired from a car parked across the street from the entrance gate of the property. One of the bullets reportedly pierced a wall of the mansion. Authorities also said bullet holes were found in the gate of the residence and in a recreational vehicle parked in the driveway.
Local broadcaster ABC7 Los Angeles reported that Rihanna was at home when the shooting occurred, though no one was harmed.
After the shooting, the suspect allegedly fled the scene in a white Tesla. Police released a description of the suspect, noting that she wore her hair in braids, had on a cream-coloured shirt, and that the underside of the vehicle appeared dirty.
A police helicopter later tracked the vehicle to a shopping centre parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where officers arrested the suspect about 30 minutes after the emergency call was received.
LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias told the Los Angeles Times that officers searched the vehicle after the arrest and recovered an assault rifle along with seven shell casings. NBC News reported that the weapon used was an AR-15-style rifle.
This is not the first security incident involving the singer’s property. In 2018, a man identified as Eduardo Leon broke into her Hollywood Hills residence and remained inside for about 12 hours before being discovered by an assistant. He later pleaded no contest to stalking the singer.
