As part of its strategic approach towards women empowerment and poverty eradication, the Jigawa State government has launched the distribution of 4,050 goats to women which is the third phase of the scheme.
Speaking at the flagg off of the distribution of the goats to some of the beneficiaries in Kazaure local government area of the state, the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Hasina Muhammad Abubakar said the previous goat empowerment scheme had yielded fruitful results.
She explained that the first phase of the programme was launched in 2016 to support women to improve their source of income through the goat-rearing business, and its impact was very tremendous which attracted many state governments and international donor partners to copy.
“We are proud that this scheme of using goats for women empowerment initiated by the Jigawa State government is now a role model as many bodies are emulating. Therefore, we will continue to use it in empowering our women for job creation, strengthen meat production and eradicate poverty,” she stated.
