Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has declared the Black Stars ready to make a strong start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign as they prepare to face Panama in their opening Group L fixture on Thursday in Toronto.

The experienced tactician expressed confidence in his side’s preparations ahead of the clash at Toronto Stadium, insisting Ghana have the quality and tactical discipline required to overcome a well-drilled Panamanian team.

“We’re strong and we’ll showcase our strengths in the game,” Queiroz said during his pre-match press conference.

“Panama are a well-organised team and we hold them in high regard because they are competitive. We have good solutions to their strengths and will try to expose the weaknesses they have.”

The encounter marks the beginning of what Ghana hope will be a memorable World Cup campaign, with the four-time African champions seeking to make a significant impact on football’s biggest stage.

For Queiroz, the tournament represents the culmination of decades of experience gained across some of the world’s top footballing nations. The Portuguese coach believes the lessons learned throughout his managerial journey will prove invaluable in guiding Ghana through the competition.

“I learned quite a bit from coaches and players, and I believe this is an opportunity for me to put together everything I’ve worked for and every decision I’ve made throughout my career,” he said.

“I hope God gives me the inspiration to make the right decisions, to use my experience and everything I’ve learned in my life so that I can take the right decisions at the right time.”

Ghana Fans Set the Tone

The Black Stars received a rousing welcome upon their arrival in Toronto, with hundreds of supporters turning out to greet the team and demonstrate their unwavering backing ahead of the tournament.

The scenes highlighted the passion and expectation surrounding Ghana’s return to the World Cup, with supporters eager to see the national team begin their campaign on a winning note.

Queiroz acknowledged the importance of fan support and urged Ghanaian supporters to play their part throughout the match.

“I hope that during the game we will hear the drums of Ghana for 90 minutes and let them accelerate the beat of our hearts,” he said.

With confidence high in the camp and strong support expected from the stands, Ghana will be aiming to translate their optimism into three crucial points when they take on Panama in a potentially decisive opening Group L encounter.
