WorldFish, an international, nonprofit research and innovation organization, has announced the appointment of Dr. Charles Iyangbe as its new Country Representative for Nigeria.

With over 25 years of leadership experience in international development and agribusiness, Dr. Iyangbe will spearhead WorldFish’s strategy to enhance aquaculture productivity, support smallholder farmers, and transform Nigeria’s aquatic food systems for improved nutrition, health, and livelihoods.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Iyangbe to the WorldFish family,” said the organisation’s Communication Coordinator, Mrs. Adesola Ayo-Aderele.

“His deep expertise in agricultural economics and proven track record in building strategic partnerships across Africa are invaluable assets. We are confident that under his leadership, our work in Nigeria will reach new heights, significantly contributing to food security and poverty reduction.”

Ayo-Adenrele said Dr. Iyangbe brings a wealth of experience from several high-profile international organisations.

According to her, he joined WorldFish from Abt Global, where he served as the Global Business Development Executive for West Africa and that his career also includes roles as Regional Director for Business Development and Signature Programs at Heifer International, as well as nearly five years as a Senior Agricultural Economist with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Nigeria, where he played a key role in shaping the country’s agricultural policy. His background is further strengthened by leadership positions at Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).

“I am honored to take on this role and lead WorldFish’s vital mission in Nigeria,” said Dr. Iyangbe.

“By leveraging research and innovation, and working closely with our partners, we can unlock the immense potential of Nigeria’s aquatic food systems to create resilient livelihoods and provide nutritious food for millions.

“I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and driving impactful change.”

Dr. Iyangbe holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Benin. His appointment marks a significant step forward for WorldFish’s commitment to fostering sustainable and resilient aquatic food systems in Africa’s most populous nation.
