Wrexham have sent a hearty congratulations to Arthur Okonkwo, who made his senior debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Tuesday night’s Unity Cup semi-final against Zimbabwe.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper started ahead of more experienced options like Francis Uzoho, and repaid the faith with a composed performance. Millwall winger Femi Azeez scored both goals as Nigeria cruised to a 2-0 win.
Okonkwo had little to do before the break but produced a crucial save with 20 minutes remaining to preserve his clean sheet.
Wrexham, now competing in the Sky Bet Championship, celebrated their shot-stopper on X (formerly Twitter): “A clean sheet for Arthur Okonkwo on Super Eagles debut.”
Okonkwo, an Arsenal academy product, previously represented England at youth level. However, FIFA formally approved his switch of allegiance to Nigeria on April 6, 2026.
He has since earned a spot in Nigeria’s squad for next month’s friendlies against Poland and Portugal, where he will compete with Maduka Okoye and Uzoho for game time.
