An international non-profit organisation, the Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development in Africa (YALDA), has called for essays exploring how continental trade can drive sustainable, green growth.
Titled ‘Africa’s Sustainable Trade Future: Youth Essay Competition! Shape Africa’s Low-Carbon Trade Future with AfCFTA: the competition welcomes entries from young African passport holders under 35 years old.
Submitted essays must be 2000 words in blog-style and accompanied by a minute unedited video pitch of their idea. Submissions are open till March 22, 2026.
Beyond winning fully paid for invitations to exclusive events around the continent, the competition is also an opportunity for young people to influence policymakers at the continental level.
The competition is supported by Afreximbank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the International Trade Centre, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
