Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has backed Alex Iwobi to surpass 130 appearances for Nigeria, with the Fulham midfielder already among the country’s elite centurions.
Iwobi became only the fourth Nigerian player to reach 100 international caps when he featured in the Super Eagles’ friendly against Portugal in June.
The 30-year-old joined an exclusive group comprising Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa, who currently holds Nigeria’s appearance record with 110 caps.
Yobo, who was Nigeria’s first player to reach a century of international appearances, believes Iwobi has enough time to set a new benchmark.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Alex getting to 130 or 130-plus because he’s still very active,” Yobo told ESPN.
“He’s still performing at the highest level. You always pray and hope you don’t get injured because these things can derail you.”
Iwobi has established himself as a regular member of the Super Eagles since making his senior debut in 2015 and has featured prominently for the national team over the past decade.
