Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has called on Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj to uphold discipline, patience, and exemplary conduct as worthy ambassadors of the nation.

Mahmoud appealed on Sunday, speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the inaugural flight and official flag-off ceremony for the 2026 Hajj operations, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In a press statement signed by her special assistant on Media, Austine Elemue, the minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s resolve to support every initiative aimed at easing the spiritual journey for Nigerian pilgrims.

Describing the occasion as both a logistical milestone and a deeply spiritual moment, the minister noted that the commencement of the Hajj exercise marks the beginning of a sacred journey for thousands of Nigerians who have answered the divine call to perform one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.

She emphasised that Hajj symbolises faith, sacrifice, unity, and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah.

“You are embarking on a journey that requires the highest level of patience and devotion. As you stand on that holy ground, remember that your behaviour reflects the image of Nigeria on the global stage,” she said.

She urged them to conduct themselves in accordance with the laws and customs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while embracing the virtues of devotion, humility, and peace throughout the pilgrimage.

“I call on you to be patient, avoid any act that can tarnish the name of our great nation, and pray for the continued peace and progress of Nigeria,” she added.

The minister commended the leadership of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), particularly its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Abba Yusuf, alongside the FCT Administration, aviation authorities, and other stakeholders, for their dedication to ensuring a smooth and well-coordinated Hajj operation.

“I am confident in the level of preparedness demonstrated by all agencies involved. It reflects a strong commitment to the welfare, safety, and comfort of our pilgrims,” Mahmoud stated.
