2027: Amaechi Posters Flood Kaduna Metropolis

Posters of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, were seen on major streets of Kaduna over the weekend, signalling what many observers view as early political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The posters, printed in bold A2 size and bearing Amaechi’s portrait, projected him as a leading opposition figure for 2027, with inscriptions describing him as “the only person to be trusted” and “the only man for the job,” while highlighting themes of unity, equality, stability and development.

Amaechi, who holds the traditional title of Dan Amanan Kasar Hausa of Daura, previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, as Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, and as Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2023.

Residents of Kaduna metropolis woke up to see the posters mounted at strategic locations, including Ahmadu Bello Way, Ali Akilu Way, around the Kaduna State Government House, as well as the busy Kawo Bridge corridor stretching towards Zaria.

The sudden appearance of the posters attracted public attention, with motorists and pedestrians slowing down to observe the displays, particularly around Kawo Bridge, where traffic movement was briefly disrupted in the early hours of the day.

Political watchers said the development may be a clear signal that the former Rivers State governor’s supporters are beginning to mobilise and test the political waters in the North, a key voting bloc in any presidential contest.

Although no official declaration has been made, the posters have intensified speculation about Amaechi’s possible renewed bid for the presidency and a potential opposition challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Amaechi had previously contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary in 2022, where he came second behind Tinubu, ahead of then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.
