2027: Peter Obi Is ‘Only Traction’ In ADC – Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, has described Peter Obi as the “only traction” in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the former Labour Party presidential candidate was the key figure giving the party relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News Channel slated for airing on Tuesday, Fayose highlighted the growing significance of Obi’s move to ADC, stressing that while other figures may be associated with the party, Obi alone drives its political influence.

“Obi is the only traction. Obi is the only meaning, Obi is the only factor, Obi is the only person in ADC that matters,” Fayose said, adding that his presence has transformed the opposition party’s relevance.

On the state of the opposition, Fayose also said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was no longer Nigeria’s dominant opposition party due to internal divisions. He dismissed claims that the PDP’s decline was linked to President Bola Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), instead attributing the party’s struggles to its own weaknesses.

“You must be very honest. When you are weak, tendencies are there for you to fall to the right of the stronger side,” Fayose said.

“The issues are very clear. The PDP is a house that is divided against itself.”

Fayose further suggested that while other politicians were associated with ADC, they were “largely spent forces,” making Obi the central figure to watch in shaping the opposition landscape ahead of 2027 general election.
