Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola has directed supporters of his aspiration to contest the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State to desist from further erection of posters and billboards on the grounds that the time for such is not yet matured.
Adeola, in a statement issued yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, by his media adviser, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, said their enthusiastic actions were capable of running foul of the electoral guidelines if they fail to cease further action on pasting posters and billboards across the state.
Odunaro said that as a loyal party man of about 35 years of experience, he was not oblivious of the appropriate process and relevant tradition of the progressives family” that will ultimately lead to making his aspirations public whenever the time is ripe, stressing that, “I am yet to declare my intention”.
He said, “The attention of Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West) has been drawn to the erection of numerous campaign billboards and posters being erected and posted by supporters seeking support for his aspiration in the race towards Ogun state governorship in 2027”.
While appreciating their love and belief in his capacity to effectively hold the exalted position of governor, the senator called on his supporters to exercise caution in their enthusiasm as the process for a full-blown campaign and timetable for the party’s primary is not out yet.
“I have been informed of the sighting of billboards and posters erected by supporters and groups in parts of the state soliciting support for my aspiration for Ogun 2027.
“As a loyal party man fully cognizant of the process and relevant tradition of the progressive family for the last 35 years, I am yet to declare my intention as I await the timetable of the party and other consultative processes. Supporters should act in tandem with my tested brand of grassroots politics grounded in due process and rules”.
Adeola, however, urged his supporters to remain faithful to the course and be guided by due process of the extant laws guiding timing for the erection of billboards and posters, saying, “I appreciate the time and money expended by my supporters, and I will not take their support for granted”.
