President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday received separate delegations of Lagos and Oyo State leaders and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his Lagos residence, where party members expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 elections and pledged to work for the party’s success.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led the Lagos delegation, which included the APC governorship candidate, the deputy governor, party leaders and the 40 candidates who emerged as the party’s flagbearers for the Lagos State House of Assembly elections.

Speaking with journalists after the visit, Sanwo-Olu said the President graciously received the delegation and offered words of encouragement and admonition to the candidates.

According to him, the candidates thanked the President for what he described as his fatherly role and assured him of their commitment to the party and their constituents.

Sanwo-Olu said the candidates told the President they had seen the impact of the Federal Government’s programmes on their constituencies as well as the efforts of the Lagos State Government.

“They’ve given their commitments to thank him for the fatherly role, to assure him that they’ve also seen what he’s doing at the national level, that has been direct beneficiaries to their various constituents and what the state is doing.

“So by extension, assuring him that they are good, going back to meet their constituents, to work across board and to ensure that they have real dividends of democracy to show their people what the federal government is doing and what they’ve done, what the state government is doing and what they’ve done,” he said.

The governor added that the candidates assured the President that they would do the work required to secure victory for the party.

He also said the party would not take anything for granted and would continue engaging stakeholders and constituents across the state.

“We will not take anything for granted. We want to hit the ground running. We have the data. We have the numbers,” Sanwo-Olu said.

In a separate visit, Oyo State APC leaders, led by the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sarafadeen Ali, senatorial candidates and party officials, also met with the President.

Speaking after the meeting, Oyo APC Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo, said the delegation came to inform the President that the party had completed the process he wanted it to undertake.

“We have now come to report to our President that we’ve been able to do what he wanted us to do. And he was very happy and told us that by the grace of God, he’s going to be with us until May 2027, when the governorship election will be held,” Adeyemo said.

He expressed confidence that the APC would win the next governorship election in Oyo State.

Also speaking, Senator Ali said he was confident the APC would reclaim power in the state in 2027.

“I’m very confident that by the grace of God, come May 29, 2027, APC will reclaim government in Oyo State.

“With the support of our father, the President, and our leaders who are here, and those at home, we are sure of victory by the grace of God,” he said.

Ali said efforts were ongoing to unite members of the party, including aspirants who participated in the governorship primary.

According to him, party leaders had already commenced reconciliation efforts aimed at bringing everyone on board ahead of the election.

“After we emerged, our leaders have commenced the process of reconciliation,” he said.
