No fewer than 400,000 Nigerians have applied for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Police Service Commission (PSC) has disclosed.

The commission announced a two-week extension of the application deadline, shifting the closing date from January 25 to February 8, 2026.

PSC spokesman, Mr. Torty Njoku, who confirmed the development on Monday, said the extension followed a review of applications received since the recruitment portal opened on December 15, 2025.

According to him, the review revealed wide disparities in the number of applicants across states of the federation.

“While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna have recorded very high numbers of applicants, states like Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra are lagging significantly,” Njoku said.

He explained that the extension was approved to ensure equitable representation of all states in the recruitment exercise.

“The commission and the Nigeria Police Force want to give eligible Nigerians from states with low application figures the opportunity to participate fully in the process,” he added.

Njoku urged qualified applicants, especially those from underrepresented states, to take advantage of the extended window and apply through the official recruitment portal.

He assured that the recruitment process would remain transparent and merit-based, in line with established guidelines.
