Five of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Home of the Needy, Benin City, Edo State, will be called to bar on July 10 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Founder of the Home, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, who stated this on Monday, said the feat would encourage other children at the centre to aim high.
He also said that out of the 145 children enrolled in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), 132 scored above 200 and 300 marks.
He said the children at the centre have continued to break barriers in their pursuit of excellence with the backing of the Home.
He said, “Five of our children will be sworn in to bar at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Abuja on the 10th July.
“Again, out of the 145 children enrolled in the last JAMB exam, 132 scored above 200 and 300.
“This achievement means a lot to the Home. It is heartwarming to see people who were driven from their houses by bandits achieving this kind of feat.
“Apart from the ones that will be called to bar, we also have doctors and other professionals, and this is a great inspiration to others.
“If you come to our centre, you will see all of them reading and ready to become top professionals.”
Folorunsho appealed to the government, groups, and well-meaning individuals to come to the centre as it currently faces tough times.
He added, “I want to appeal to everyone to give the students scholarship and food to eat. We have over 400 students in higher institutions who need funds for books, clothes, food, school fees and accommodations.
“Even in our centre, we need food, water, solar light and books for over 400 in secondary school so that we can produce more professionals that will be of immense benefit to society.”
