50 Golfers Set For Olu Of Warri’s 5th Coronation Anniversary Tourney

Preparations for the fifth coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, have gathered pace, with about 50 golfers from across Nigeria expected to compete in a special tournament as part of activities marking the monarch’s five years on the throne.

Chairman of CanaanLand Golf and Country Club, Koko, Delta State, Hon. Felix Aganbi, announced on Friday that the Special Kitty Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday, 8 August 2026, as one of the flagship events commemorating the anniversary.

Organised in collaboration with Riva Golf, the tournament will feature both professional and amateur golfers alongside traditional rulers, business leaders and other distinguished guests.

Aganbi said the competition is designed to celebrate the Olu of Warri’s leadership and recognise his contributions to peace, unity and development across the Warri Kingdom.

According to him, about 50 golfers have already confirmed their participation, while a total prize purse of ₦1 million will be shared among the outstanding performers.

“This tournament is one of the activities put together to celebrate His Majesty’s fifth coronation anniversary. It provides an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to identify with the King’s vision and join in commemorating this important milestone.

“We are expecting golfers from different parts of the country for what promises to be a memorable competition. The presentation of prizes will take place at the Christiana Aganbi Smart Hall immediately after the tournament,” Aganbi said.

Among the golfers expected to compete are Lady Captain Lucky Apkeiyi, Princewill Cosmas, Stephen Akpomiemie Asagba, Dr Monica Obaedo, Lt Col Emmanuel Umoru, Dr Austin Okogun, Tony Uduimo, Felix Aganbi and Prince Igbinosa, alongside representatives of several golf clubs nationwide.

Aganbi added that the tournament forms part of the broader Bini Riva Festival, an annual cultural celebration held in Koko that showcases fishing, arts, traditional games and communal feasting.

He expressed confidence that this year’s festival would further boost tourism and promote Delta State’s rich cultural heritage.

Ogiame Atuwatse III, the 21st Olu of Warri, ascended the throne in August 2021 and has since championed initiatives aimed at fostering peace, cultural renaissance and socio-economic development across the Iwere (Warri) Kingdom.

The anniversary celebrations are expected to attract prominent personalities from across Nigeria.
