58 Prison Inmates To Graduate From NOUN

National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is set to award degrees to 58 inmates after completing their studies at the various Nigeria Correctional Service study centres.

The vice chancellor of NOUN, Prof Olufemi Peters stated this in Abuja yesterday when he briefed the press ahead of the convocation ceremony, scheduled for Saturday March 25, 2023.

He disclosed that the institution will be graduating a total of 28,740 students across its studies centres in the country.

According to him, the vice-chancellor, University of South Africa (UNISA), Professor Puleng LenkaBula will present the convocation lecture on Friday under the topic: “Volatility and Opportunities in Higher Education.”

The lecture will be followed by the convocation ceremony on Saturday, March 25, 2023, and will be held on-site and off-site simultaneously.

“We are going to graduate 28,740 for both undergraduate and post undergraduate. We have about 21,339 undergraduate students and 7,401 postgraduate students.

“We have 6 first class students, 2306 second class upper division, and 11075 students who are in second class lower divisions.”

We have 5558 students who are having 3rd class. Of this we are graduating 58 inmates,” he said.

On the issue of NOUN graduates participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the vice chancellor said the institution is working towards a new proposal to be presented to the new director-general of the scheme.
