The Cross River State Police Command has responded to reports of corpses discovered at a local embalmment hall in Isong Inyang Community along Calabar–Ikom Highway on Friday.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River River State Command, ASP Sunday Akata, who spoke in Calabar yesterday while reacting to the issue, said that Police operatives were mobilised to the scene after receiving credible information at about 11:56hrs on Friday in Calabar and policemen quickly swung into action.

Upon arrival, he said eight dry corpses were found in the hall stressing that one suspect, Mr Sunday Ben Reuben, a native of Nsit Ibom local government area of Akwa Ibom State, was arrested.

The PPRO averred that preliminary investigation shows that the suspect is a mortician attached to Enghaut Company Mortuary, located in Akamkpa local government area of Cross River State.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the matter and if any laws were contravened,” he maintained.

ASP Akata urged the public to remain calm and refrain from speculations, stressing that further verified updates would be communicated to members of the public.
