The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed that eight people were killed in an attack on Nindama village in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the development to LEADERSHIP on Sunday by phone.
Gunmen reportedly invaded the community in the wee hours of Friday, shooting sporadically.
It was gathered that in the ensuing pandemonium, nine people lost their lives, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
However, SP Nansel told our correspondent that eight people were killed in the mayhem.
He said that following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered the deployment of officers and men to the affected area.
He said the police commissioner also led a team to the community to assess the situation, adding that security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the attackers.
It was learnt that many people were missing after the attack, which lasted more than an hour.
It was also gathered that those injured are receiving medical attention at Garaku General Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, while the dead are being taken to the hospitals.
