May Day: Masari Salutes Katsina Workers

Governor Aminu Bello Masari was absent at the 2023 May Day celebration of the Nigerian Labour Union (NLC) yesterday which was supposed to be his last as the governor of the state.

The governor sent his special adviser on labour matters, Tanimu Saulawa, who read his message to the union, describing the May Day celebration held at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, as very important, being the last celebration for him as governor and its coming barely two months after the NLC election as well as the general elections were held.

Masari saluted the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their support and cooperation given to his administration in the past eight years governing the state and improving the welfare of workers in the state.

Highlighting the abrogation of tenure policy for the civil servants, prompt payment of salaries, pension and gratuities to the retired civil servants, promotions, training and re-training of civil servants, and the establishment of a health contributory scheme among other achievements, his administration has attained within the eight years.

He urged them to support and extend the same cooperation to the incoming government to bring in good and positive progressive policies that will further transform the state and improve the general well-being of the people.

 

On behalf of the workers, Comrade Mutari Abdul Ruma, thanked the state government for giving priority to the welfare of workers and its support for the union to occupy its permanent state secretariat.

 

He drew the attention of the incoming government to focus on the security challenges, payment of gratuity to retirees, restoration of 27.5 per cent teacher peculiar allowance and approval of 65/40 years retirement age, installation of 330kv substation injection and the need to overhaul government pension.
