Therapy!

I do not wish for anyone’s final note to be filled with pain and regret. Reflecting on the news of a 32-year-old banker who tragically took their own life at the workplace sends a distressing signal about our workforce and how we address mental health issues. It’s about time we began to explore therapy and seeking ways to balance our work, life and health. There are various ways of seeking help.

Having to go to a shrink is not some taboo, it’s about time we rewrite what our normal is and not what the world perceives it to be. Why do we think it’s a crazy move when someone has to see a psychologist? There are also various ways of therapy that does not need to the break the bank. Exercises cannot also be overestimated; this has in record time showed how very imperative it is for general wellbeing.

Therapy is a form of treatment that aims to help remedy both our mental and emotional issues. These emotional issues are not farfetched, they include trauma, stress, disappointments, losing loved ones, sickness, pains, delays, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar, PTSD, substance use disorders, mood disorders, fear(phobias), obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD).

So, in this age and time why do we still think seeing a shrink or going for therapy is a crazy move. I believe there are cheap hacks to these things, without breaking the bank and shaming the family as that is the major reason why we would rather cover it up till it becomes due and bursts out into flame. Sometimes, therapy can be as cheap as nature walks, exercising, doing self-care, babysitting nephews and nieces for free, visiting your dentist, trying out new sport or skill and finally, eating good food. I assure you these cheap hacks have been effective overtime, consistency is key in this situation.

So the questions are, why do you think therapy is absurd? Why wait for a final note\suicide note? Why let it get it to that point of no return?  So, go out there today, really look within you, think thoroughly and if you are just tired, if you are beginning to have thoughts of the easiest way to die in Nigeria, you need therapy. I think in Nigeria, we all need therapy.

Take that courageous step, for within therapy lies the transformative magic of reclaiming your inner sanctuary. And this is the health situation for this season.
