Afiesere community in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State and the Association of Dredgers are in disagreement over the seven days ultimatum given to members of the association by the local government authorities.

They issued an ultimatum for dredgers in the community to vacate the sites and remove their equipment within seven days, but the dredgers have requested for more time.

President-general of Afiesere, Mr. Richard Ovwreghederhwo, announced the ultimatum during an emergency meeting with the dredgers, saying the decision was irrevocable.
The move followed dredging operations that jeopardise essential infrastructure, including bridges and the health center.

Ovwreghederhwo asserted that public criticisms had heightened as a result of government scrutiny which prompted them to take the action.

Responding on behalf of the dredgers, Dr. Anthony Ugbodeme disagreed with the directive, the one-week notice was inadequate for the safe removal of dredging equipment, citing significant logistical and financial challenges.
