A five-year-old child has been killed by a vehicle that rammed into a market in Anambra State.

About four other victims of the accident in the market were said to have sustained severe injuries.

An eyewitness narrated that the accident occurred in the morning of yesterday. A driver of a Sienna bus lost control of the vehicle, and it veered into Oye-Agu Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State and hit several traders, killing a five-year-old child on the spot, and inflicted severe injuries on about four other persons in the market.

The Oye-Agu Abagana market is located along Old Enugu -Onitsha federal road.

The police public relations officer of the Anambra state command (PPRO), superintendent of police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the sad incident, said the state commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has cautioned vehicle drivers to always carry out maintenance on their vehicles before plying the road in them, especially during these ember-months.

He said CP Itam gave the warning while reacting to the Oye-Agu Abagana market motor accident.

SP Ikenga stated that police preliminary information revealed that the accident occurred due to the break failure of the Toyota Sienna vehicle.

He said the vehicle was conveying passengers to Lagos when it rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu junction.
