The media has been urged to play a crucial role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through responsible and impactful reporting.

Lady Diana Eyo-Enoette, the special assistant to the Governor of Delta State on SDGs, stated this during a media parley at the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) premises in Asaba.

Speaking to a gathering of media professionals, Lady Eyo-Enoette emphasised the need for tailored approaches to sustainable development that address the unique challenges faced by communities across Delta State.

She highlighted the media’s role in connecting the SDGs’ aspirational targets with citizens’ daily realities, especially in the context of global challenges such as climate change, inequality, health crises, and economic hardship.

In her remarks, the general manager of DBS Asaba, Mrs Kristen Jobome-Emetulu, described the event as a strategic effort to unify and empower media practitioners from both traditional and digital platforms.

She emphasised the importance of media collaboration in raising awareness of the SDGs and the state’s MORE agenda. She highlighted DBS Asaba’s commitment to providing platforms for stakeholders to promote their activities.

The director-general of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Oghenesivbe, called for enhanced media partnerships with international organisations and specialised training for journalists to communicate the SDGs effectively and engage grassroots communities.
