MTN CHAMPS, a grassroots initiative launched by MTN Nigeria in collaboration with Making of Champions, has established itself as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of Olympic hopefuls. Through regional events in cities such as Benin and Lagos, thousands of young athletes have been discovered, given elite training opportunities, and afforded exposure on a national scale.

The Uyo finale is scheduled to take place from 6 to 9 May 2025 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, where 2,186 athletes from 136 secondary schools and 93 club teams will compete across more than 5,800 entries in various events. A significant focus will be on the 40 athletes selected for Team MVP, who were chosen based on their outstanding performances at previous MTN CHAMPS meets in Lagos and Benin.

Speaking ahead of the finals, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to youth development through sport.

“MTN Champs continues to grow, transform, and inspire the future of athletics in Nigeria. At MTN, we remain dedicated to supporting the dreams and aspirations of young Nigerians—not only through innovative products but also by investing in socially impactful initiatives, particularly in football and athletics,” she said.
