The Federal Capital Territory Football Association (FCT FA) has described the sudden demise of Uwaeme Promise, fondly referred to as ‘Pikin of God’, as shocking.
The FA Chairman, Alhaji Mouktar Mohammed, still reeling from the news, described the untimely passing of Promise as a significant loss to the sporting fraternity in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large.
While commiserating with family, friends, and the Referees Association of the FCT, Alhaji Mouktar stated that the death of this young and energetic talent will create a void of creativity, resilience, and hard work.
“He was a very hardworking and forward-thinking individual. He viewed challenges as stepping stones to greater heights, as demonstrated over the years.
He carved a niche for himself as an international sports journalist and sports administrator. We are saddened, but we believe God has the final say.”
“We, the FCT FA family, are mourning during this period, and we stand with the family. We pray that Almighty Allah grants us all the fortitude to bear this great loss.”
The FA Chairman, in a statement signed by Uche Nwudoh Hillary, head of the media committee, and made available to journalists on Tuesday, also expressed condolences to the Referees Association of the FCT, urging them to remain strong and reminding them that Promise was a commendable ambassador of the association who reached enviable heights in his profession.
“I know this is a difficult time for everyone, especially the Referees Association, even at the national level. But I urge you all to stay strong and remember he was a worthy ambassador who made referees proud and achieved remarkable success in this profession.”
Throughout his life, Uwaeme Promise demonstrated qualities such as dedication, compassion, and leadership, touching countless lives through his work and ideas.
Uwaeme Promise was a former committee member of the FCT FA and also served as a referee in the FCT before progressing to officiate in the NPFL and becoming a VAR instructor.
