The organisers of the Opobo Marathon have announced a strategic partnership with Ailes Group as a key sponsor for the eighth edition of the race, set to take place on 5 January 2026 in the historic coastal town of Opobo, Rivers State.

Ailes Group, a rapidly emerging conglomerate with interests in technology, energy, and integrated solutions, joins a host of corporate partners in supporting the Opobo Marathon, which has grown to become one of Nigeria’s most recognised community-based coastal road races.

Since its inception in 2019, the Opobo Marathon has developed into a focal point for runners and visitors from across Nigeria, showcasing the rich heritage and hospitality of the Opobo Kingdom while stimulating socio-economic activity in the region.

Commenting on the partnership, Henry Iyowuna Cookey, the founder and project lead of the Opobo Marathon, expressed that this collaboration signifies a significant milestone in the marathon’s journey of expansion and purposeful impact.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ailes Group as a valued partner for the eighth Opobo Marathon. This partnership highlights our shared commitment to innovation, wellness, and community development. Together, we’re not just running — we’re going further,” said Cookey.

In a statement, Ailes Group indicated that its decision to support the marathon aligns with its vision to endorse initiatives that promote social development and foster unity through sport.

We are proud to be part of this inspiring platform that continues to empower communities and promote excellence.”

Now in its eighth year, the Opobo Marathon has established itself as a prominent event in Nigeria’s sporting calendar, promoting tourism, youth engagement, and healthy living through distance running.

The 2026 edition, themed ‘Gbamaso – Be Limitless,’ aims to build on previous successes, featuring an expanded cohort of athletes, increased community participation, and strengthened institutional partnerships.
