The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two children in separate well incidents in Dawakin Tofa and Dala local government areas of the state, respectively.
Spokesperson of the service, Saminu Yusif, in a statement made available to journalists noted that the first incident occurred on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at about 8:53 a.m. in Kashirmo Village by Sarkakiya in Dawakin Tofa LGA.
He explained that an eight-year-old girl, identified as Zara’u Muhammad, reportedly fell into a well and drowned before she could be rescued.
“Before the arrival of our special rescue team, the people of the area tried all they could to pull her out but it was impossible due to the depth and high water level in the well.
“The rescue team eventually recovered the body and handed it over to the ward head, Abdullahi Garba,” he stated.
Yusuf added that, in a separate incident, a six-year-old boy, Ahmad Abdurashid, also lost his life after falling into a well on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at about 10:02 a.m. in Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area of Dala LGA.
According to him, the fire service team rescued the boy unconscious, but he was later confirmed dead and handed over to his father, Abdulrashid, of Dandishe Quarters.
He quoted the Service’s director, Alhaji Sani Anas, as expressing sadness over the tragedies and appealed to parents and community members to take precautionary measures and avoid digging open wells along roadsides and monitor the movements of their children.
