Nigerian leaders have been urged to invest in the mentorship of the youth through character moulding and entrepreneurship schemes in order to make them good citizens.
The dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences , University of Ilorin, Prof. Saudat Abdulbaqi, made the call in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday at the public presentation of a book “Kuliya of Ilorin: A Life of Purpose” and the unveiling of Kuliyan Gari of Ilorin Emirate’s national youth mentorship summit, in honour of Malam Yusuf Ali (SAN).
Abdulbaqi said mentorship is a deliberate act of guiding the youth for a purpose and becoming good members of the society, adding that investing on youth mentorship is an investment for the future of the nation .
She said the digital system could be adopted to enroll the youths for mentorship or employment, entrepreneurship among others.
The don urged the youths to see the mentorship put forward for them as an act of charity, admonishing them to always think of how they could give back to the society no matter how little to make life better for the less privileged.
In his remarks,the Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari expressed delight over the presentation of a book to teach the people on how to mentor others.
The book reviewer and the proprietor of Gerin FM, Ilorin, Dr Mahmud AbdulRaheem said the book presentation was timely.
He said the person whose life and time was being looked at has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the society.
For his part, the Kuliyan Gari of Ilorin, Mal Yusuf Ali (SAN) said all human beings will fulfill the purpose of God in their lives.
Ali who noted that the difference between good and bad people is very thin advised every individual to contribute their own quota to ensure better growth and development.
The author of the book who is a senior journalist, Mal Biodun Abdulkareem said the good philosophic spirit of the awardee inspired him into writing the book.
