Union Takes Stiff Stance Against Hard Drug Deal, Cultism

Ebem Ohafia Development Union has taken a stiff stance against the sale and use of hard drugs and illicit substances, and any other kinds of criminal activities in and around the community going forward.

Publicity secretary of the union, Ifeanyi Okali, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday yesterday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, warned those engaged in the acts to desist immediately.

The statement read: “The stance has the full support of Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders, Ebem Ohafia Youths Association, and the entire people of Ebem Ohafia, Ohafia local government, Abia State.

”As part of new security measures aimed at ensuring peace, security, and order in the community, the union hereby announces that anyone found culpable of any criminal activities will not be spared.

”The union has also issued a final warning against cultism, directing all persons involved to renounce such activities or face severe community sanctions and prosecution.”

It ordered criminals and their sponsors using the community as a hideout to vacate immediately, noting that any indigenes found harbouring such person would be held accountable.

”Furthermore, fighting with any kinds of weapons, brandishing of firearms, and unauthorized gunshots are strictly prohibited. Offenders will be fined, sanctioned, and handed over to security agencies.

The union also resolved that the Ikwu Nne (maternal kindred) of defaulters shall be held responsible for any breaches of the acts, including suspension from hosting of ceremonies where necessary.

”’In addition, traders operating along Ebem Police Station/Court Road, and within Ebem Daily Market are warned against obstructing gutters, walkways, and the free zones,” the statement said.

Explaining that violators would have their goods impounded, it added that the enforcement is immediate without exception, respect for persons, strict, and uncompromising.
