To enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security in Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas has inaugurated the Taraba Seed Production Limited.
The company will produce hybrid seedlings for farmers in the state.
The project, launched in Lau local government area, is expected to bolster the agricultural value chain by ensuring farmers have access to high-quality, certified and climate-resilient seeds.
Governor Kefas said the initiative aligned with his administration’s commitment to driving socioeconomic development and sustainable agriculture in the state.
He, therefore, disclosed plans to construct the road linking Lau to other parts of the state to improve accessibility and to stimulate economic activities in the area.
The governor, urged residents of host communities to actively participate in, and to protect the project to guarantee its sustainability.
He used the medium to encourage them to register in the ongoing APC e-registration exercise to enable them benefit from government development programmes.
He further charged the company’s management to carry host communities along in its operations as a way of inclusion in their programmes.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas Nemesan, said Taraba Seed Production Limited would not only focus on seed production but also make significant contributions to overall agricultural development in the state.
Also speaking, the chairman of Lau local government area, Hon. Julius Peter Vau, commended Governor Kefas for his developmental efforts in the area and called for sustained support for his administration.
The company’s representative, Prof. Nicholas Oliver, explained that its operations would centre on the multiplication, processing and distribution of improved seed varieties to farmers.
