Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused the Igbo ethnic group of being easily influenced by money and political power, alleging that they have abandoned the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in Sokoto custodial centre.

Fayose made the remarks in a video posted on his Facebook page on Monday night, in which he spoke in Pidgin English and expressed gratitude that he was not Igbo by tribe, claiming that the group readily followed those in authority once money and power were involved.

“Thank God say I no be Igbo by tribe,” Fayose said. “That tribe, they are so easy to buy. You just hold money and power, they will follow you like puppy dog.”

Linking his claim to the continued detention of the IPOB leader, Fayose alleged that Igbos have moved on politically and socially while Nnamdi Kanu remains in prison.

“Una don forget Nnamdi Kanu for Sokoto prison,” he said.

He contrasted Kanu’s situation with that of a prominent Yoruba figure, whom he claimed has been absolved of past controversies and is now being celebrated.

“But our own Yoruba Igboho Oosa don come. They don clear him and all his sins are forgiven. Now he’s going to take royal title from Ile Ife, but your own Nnamdi Kanu dey Sokoto,” Fayose added.

Fayose also mocked what he described as the public display of political loyalty for by some Igbo supporters, referring to the wearing of political campaign materials.

  • “All of you come dey wear him mandate cap,” he said. “What a tribe!!”
